Raji Babatunde (b.1986, Lagos, Nigeria) is an impressionist artist known for creating figurative portraits rendered in warm hues and brown skin tones. His paintings capture mundane life experiences and draw on the innocence of children — their instincts of love and justice.

Babatunde’s practise is influenced by his immediate environment and the lives of people around him. He recreates familiar domestic scenes derived from his childhood memories. Babatunde aims to portray the universality of humans, regardless of where they live or where they are from.

In Babatunde’s work, objects like candles and lanterns are recurring elements that symbolise hope and address the state of poor electricity in Nigeria. His works also convey metaphors for movement and traversing boundaries within the context of migration and the search for greener pastures.

He has participated in several group exhibitions, art auctions, and salon exhibitions. In 2019, one of his portrait paintings was selected among the top 260 in the British portrait competition. He undertook his Industrial Training (IT) programme at the Universal Studios of Art, Iganmu, Lagos, Nigeria, training under renowned artists such as Abiodun Olaku, Ejoh Wallace and Joshua Nmesironye. He further went on to train under the renowned Nigerian artist Ebenezer Akinola.
